Gratuity serves as a meaningful way for clients to show personal appreciation to our hardworking guides, camp manager, camp cook, and wranglers who go above and beyond to ensure an exceptional hunt. It is customary to offer a standard gratuity, typically ranging from 15% to 20% of the total hunt cost.

However, we want to emphasize that gratuity is not obligatory. It is an age-old tradition that clients can choose to participate in based on their own assessment of the efforts made by our dedicated team members to create a memorable hunting experience. The decision to award gratuity should reflect the individual’s recognition of the exceptional service provided by our staff.

When it comes to hunting, whether using a firearm or a bow, being familiar with your weapon is crucial for a successful trophy hunt and accurate shot. In addition, it’s important to follow safety recommendations to handle your weapon properly. Be sure to keep track of your guide or non-hunting companions. To increase your chances of a successful hunt, practicing and having good equipment are key. Shooting ability is particularly important, so start preparing well in advance by carefully sighting in your rifle. Practice shooting! It is recommended that you practice at distances out to 50 yards with a bow and distance out to 500 yards with a rifle. Keep in mind that there won’t be any shooting benches in the field, so practice shooting prone or off a backpack as often as possible.

Hunting can be physically challenging, especially in our area of Northwest Wyoming. However, with the right level of physical and mental conditioning, you can increase your chances of harvesting a trophy and fully enjoying your adventure. Since every hunt is a unique experience, you should focus on the variables that you can control, such as your mental and physical aptitude.

We highly recommend that you prepare in the following ways:

  1. Engage in physical exercise (both aerobic and anaerobic) at least 3-4 times per week.
  2. Consider morning workouts to increase your caloric expenditure, and you can add an afternoon workout 1-2 days a week if you wish.
  3. Maintain a healthy and balanced diet. Preparing for Horseback Hunts Horseback hunts are less physically demanding than backpacking, but prior experience and training can make the experience more enjoyable. If you’re a beginner, it’s recommended that you take a few riding lessons to learn which muscles to use. If you have access to horses, try to ride several times a week before the guided hunt to reduce any soreness.

When it comes to hunting, whether using a firearm or a bow, being familiar with your weapon is crucial for a successful trophy hunt and accurate shot. In addition, it’s important to follow safety recommendations to handle your weapon properly. Be sure to keep track of your guide or non-hunting companions, especially during muzzleloader hunts, where the sound can cause harm to those nearby.

To increase your chances of a successful hunt, practicing and having good equipment are key. Shooting ability is particularly important, so start preparing well in advance by carefully sighting in your rifle. Practice shooting from different positions, such as sitting, prone, and offhand, with 100 to 200 rounds of ammo at distances of 50 to 350 yards, though most shots are around 200 yards. Keep in mind that there won’t be any shooting benches in the field, so practice shooting prone or off a backpack as often as possible.

After hunting and harvesting your animal, your guide will handle the field dressing process. It is important to note that the cost of taxidermy work and meat processing is your responsibility.

However, if you wish, the meat can be donated to a local food bank. Please be aware that the fees for meat processing vary depending on the meat processor. If you want to have your meat shipped home, you can make arrangements directly with the individual meat cutters upon dropping off your animal.

Taxidermy work can also be done at an additional cost, and we highly recommend Dewey’s Wildlife in Cody, WY for all your taxidermy needs. If you prefer to take your trophy home to a local taxidermist, that is also possible.

However, please note that heads taken home by commercial airlines require special care, and it is essential to contact your airline prior to your trip to find out their regulations. We strongly advise you to check on your home state laws regarding the transportation of meat and heads back from Wyoming with regard to chronic wasting disease.

For meat processing, you can choose from the following options

Wapiti Valley Meats: 2776 N Fork Hwy, Cody, WY 82414, 307-578-7102

We hope this information helps you make the necessary arrangements for your hunting trip.
